A Heartfelt Thanks!
Hi Nancy - as per our call, please feel free to share this with potential clients and I am happy to attach my name to it - for what little value that might have!
Nancy - I am writing to again express my heartfelt thanks - from myself, my family and if she could speak to our dog Molly. We 'inherited' this little sheltie a few months ago, and although she had lead a pretty sheltered existence before joining our crazy household, she had learned some pretty frustrating habits. With our limited experience of dogs (we are lucky enough to have had another very biddable and well behaved dog for years) we were able to change some of Molly's behaviors, but I was at my wits end with the barking!!! All the shows I watched on TV, things I read on the web and friends I talked to had interesting but contradictory and sometimes silly suggestions for me. All the information I read about Shelties led me to rationalize that this constant barking was just a sheltie 'trait' and that I really couldn't change it. I got a great little sheet of instructions of how NOT to deal with Molly from my vet - but no useful suggestions of what I COULD do to change things.
Thank GOODNESS for all of us I was expressing my frustration with this dog with some friends one evening and one friend shared her story of Nancy's remarkable work with her dog, and suggested I give CalgaryDogTrainer.com a read. After glancing through and liking what I read, as well as remembering the difference I had seen in my friend's dog, I decided to call Nancy. Best decision I have made in a long time!! We set up an appointment for her to come to my house and observe for herself what was really going on and what needed to change. Nancy was professional, calm, clear and punctual. In less than 2 hours she had changed my thinking and behavior - as well as my dogs. I was tuned in as to what I was doing right and how I was helping to create and perpetuate the problems we had with Molly. With a few minutes of instruction to my husband and children we have made small but powerful changes to the way we think about and deal with Molly - and everyone is happier. Our house is calmer, the dog doesn't bark at the doorbell or phone (really, in just a day... I can't really believe it either) and I am no longer considering finding a new home for Molly.
I am VERY appreciative of Nancy's personalized approach to our issues, and her positive, reasonable and firm way of dealing with our dog that I find simple to implement. In less than a day we had a whole new household. No more yelling at the dog (and ramping up the problem) and our front door can now be sanded and restrained without fear of it being desperately clawed again.
The time and money I invested with Nancy is the best decision I have made this month. I am sure that her assurance that Mind Your Manners methods will work for almost any dog and their owners. Our dog wasn't completely out of control - but I didn't have the tools to make us both completely happy. Nancy's balanced approach has given Molly and I a needed tune up of our relationship and I feel confident now that we can both calmly enjoy our walks (off leash and on) as well as greet guests and communicate without constant barking. Valuable results!
Transformed my dog and taught me the skills to carry it through!
I am not exaggerating when I say that Nancy Johansen changed my life in 2 hours, she transformed my dog and taught me the skills to carry it through. For the last eight months my environment was decided by my dog, I loved him but I sure didn't like him. I dreaded our two walks a day and it was stressful trying to avoid every situation outside just to make a path home in the quickest amount of time.
I spent months pouring over YouTube videos and watching dog training shows all in vain. I researched dog trainers in Calgary but the fees are astronomical and always entailed me taking him there when really it’s his own environment where the issue is, when I found Nancy’s ad I questioned why she was so affordable when she makes it so convenient by coming to you, and teaching your dog respect with no treats? No clicker? I wasn't convinced this was possible. But there before my eyes her patient, calm professional demeanor put me back in control of my home and life. Now during the day I find myself for the first time in a long time eager to get home so my dog and I can enjoy our time outside like we were meant to do. I would recommend Nancy to anyone; it’s the best investment I ever made!
Hi Nancy I hope that's okay it’s almost impossible to put into words the relief and calmness I have felt since you were here. You can tweak it however you like, yesterday for the first time ever we approached a dog!!! and they smelled each other after that though KC kind of lunged and snapped at him so I tugged on the leash and said no but the guy with the other dog said that my dog was just saying that he’s top dog so I don't know if that's true or when to know if its play or not. He’s using the crate he whined at first but already its better. Again thank you for everything you are so kind hearted.
The Joy it was Always Intended To Be
In a very short time Nancy was able to transform the behaviour of Cooper while at the same time providing outstanding affirmation and encouragement to us as pet parents. Her work with Cooper and support to us has made our pet experience the joy it was always intended to be."

A Whole New World To us
Nancy has trained two of my dogs and her training techniques opened a whole new world to us and allowed our bonds to become even deeper. She has a heart not just for the dogs themselves, but for the relationships forged between dogs and their owners.
Hope this is ok. If it doesnt meet what youre trying to convey, you can write something and send it to me and I'll put my stamp of approval on it.
I understand you refer Nancy Johansen from Mind Your Manners and I just wanted to let you know how much I personally would recommend her as well.
Bob and Marley are two clients of yours (cross between golden retriever and mirama sheep dog). They were 1 year old in March 2014 and we just recently completed the 3 session lessons with Nancy and already notice a change with their on leash habits and long lead walks. Nancy was awesome and I would not hesitate recommending her to any of your other clients that may require some lessons. I will be signing up in the fall for the E – Training as well.
I thought you should know as I’m sure you get many people asking about training.
